DAY 01 · NOTICE · ABOUT 20 MINUTES
What do you actually see?
Objective: distinguish an observation from an inference.
An observation describes something you can notice directly. An inference is an explanation you form from observations. Both are useful, but keeping them separate helps us speak honestly about what we know.
A small example
You see water on a path. “The path is wet” is an observation. “It rained” is an inference. A sprinkler or a spilled bucket could also explain the water.
Try it together
Which statement is an observation?
Make it your own
Choose an everyday object. On paper, draw two columns: “I observe” and “I infer.” Write three observations and one possible explanation. Ask a parent which other explanations might fit.
A parent’s next question
“What did you notice, and what makes you think that?” Praise clear reasoning and willingness to revise an explanation.
